A house with tradition
Already in the year 1547 a modest house had stood exactly at the same place where Hotel Drei Schwanen is located today, close to the Altmarkt square of Karl May’s native town. However, this house fell victim to a devastating fire in 1683. In the course of the development of the mining town Hohenstein, founded in 1510, the settlement of Ernstthal in 1680 and finally after their union in 1898, our hotel, which is called “Schwan” by the locals, had to face various structural changes, from the probably most crucial ones in 1881 with a complete new building up to a current comprehensive refurbishing. In Hotel Drei Schwanen, an important piece of the town’s history has been made; just remember the arrest of Karl May and the composition of his world-famous stories in this hotel. Hardly any significant event such as fire, war and social turmoil, but big celebrations as well passed by without leaving it unaffected.Comprehensively refurbished in 1997, the house now presents itself in a new look, which nevertheless, still renders homage to its former appearance regarding design. A successful balance of tradition and present was achieved.
